In a study by "vcö" (Traffic Club Austria) about the share of trips by bike in larger European cities Oldenburg appears in second place with 43% of all trips by bike, just behind first placed Houten in the Netherland with 44%, see http://iitm.be/vcoecities .

A cycling budget of just €2.50 per inhabitant goes a long way, because cycleways have been planned into all road projects since the 1960. Also pavement cycleways have priority over side roads. On a Cambridge Cycling Campaign study tour to Oldenburg experienced useful and usable segregated cycleways, which always there when needed! When the pedestrian crossing beyond the crossroads here goes to red, traffic approaching the junction is requested to stop at this white line on the left.

The yellow button just visible on the post on the side road on the right can activate the pedestrian crossing just beyond the junction. When that goes to red traffic is supposed to stop at the white line on the left.

This button is a remote control that activates the pedestrian crossing which is offset from this cross-roads.

Kreyenbrück's residential streets are composed of many culs-de-sac with paths linking to a backbone network for walking and cycling.

Oldenburg Cycle "Kurier" had just received a DHL drop-off for delivery on a Long John.

A 1960 or 1970's style subway below the level of the waterbed in Eversten. This is a green backbone cycleroute, crossing Kennedy Str. near Kennedy Lake.

Cambio Car Sharing Station in Oldenburg. It is located underneath a giant raised motorway (bridge), at one km from the edge of the pedestrianised the city centre, between the centre and the University.
