What do Dutch cyclists want ? Good Cycle Paths !
This is a recruitment pamphlet from Fietsersbond, the Dutch "Cyclists Union" which campaigns for cycling facilities in this country.
There is no movement here to want to cycle on the roads. The slogan reads "Good cycle paths don't come by themselves - What does fietsersbond do for you?"
Inside there is a summary of what has been achieved in the last 30 years:
o Thousands of cyclepaths and intersections are improved for cyclists
o Since 2003, all trucks have an extra mirror to make them able to see cyclists better and prevent the "dead corner" problem.
o Cheap hire bikes at railway stations (OV-Fiets)
o Across the Netherlands, cycle parking at stations has been improved.
o Quality standards for cycle parking (Fietsparkeur)
o Cyclists can claim 18c / km for cycle usage, tax free from their boss
o Since 2001, Cyclists have priority from the right
o Via work, a cheap "bike from the boss" scheme has become available.
And what has fietsersbond been fighting for?
o Comfortable and better cycle routes
o More and better parking
o Reduction in cycle theft
o More traffic safety for cyclists
