10625Photo #10625Whichever Highway Authority is currently responsible for Hinckley - and its not alway obvious who is dong what these days - but whoever it is, they have lost the plot completely. These No Cycling panels have recently appeared in this one way stret. So here apparently is a street where it is legal to drive a 44 tonne articulated lorry, but it is not permitted to ride a bike with your family.

In fact the signs are clearly illegal and I have written an email to Leicestershire County Council to persue the matter.

10620Photo #10620Leicestershire Highways Authority have advised me that for this 'No Cycling' sign...
"there is no trace of an order being made and I suspect the 'no cycling sign' was simply put up on site without the associated written order.'
They have said (Feb 2007) that it will be taken down. (They did: see #11064.)

I asked them because further down this 'walk' there are motor vehicles.

Note: This admission by the Highways Authority places a question mark over all similar signs in the area formerly adminstered by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough council.

10619Photo #10619The up arrows at either side of the street indicate that this is a one-way street.

The panels underneath say "No Cycling", but the correct sign for no cycling is circular with a red border with a cycle symbol in the middle. Therefore these 'no cycling' signs are probably illegal. I shall be contacting Leicestershire Highways Authority for clarification.
