New Bit was, on 22 September 2010, closed for widening and resurfacing; the works are still taking place to my knowledge.

The cattle grid doesn't actually seem to keep the cattle on the fen, so it's been blocked off and cyclists, buggies, wheelchairs (in theory) have to go through the gate.
