What happens when there's not enough cycle parking: people park several spaces abreast, and bikes fall over. In this case, this is done to excess. And so bikes end up in the path of passing vehicles, with wheels being flattened.
The scene greeting visitors to Cambridge on their way from the railway station. An acute lack of secure cycle parking leads to bikes parked insecurely to the wooden railing, with the result of this vandalism.
These parasol type hanging 'designer' cycle parking, known as 'meathooks', were so unpopular they were replaced after only a few months.
Opportunistic cyclists use the skip as a temporary place to park while visiting the pub opposite.
Inadequate cycle parking at Tesco, Newmarket Road. Note: There is a fundamental problem with the design of these particular 'toastracks'. The rails on the toast-rack are spaced such that one of the bike wheels has to 'sit' on the top of ... [more]
This is an area of high levels of cycle theft. Yet not a single cycle parking stand is available, despite literally hundreds of insecure bikes being left against walls. Car parking on the opposite site of the road should be selectively remo ... [more]
Nowhere to park bikes here (officially), but such an obvious need, and there\'s plenty of space.
Hopeless wheelbender cycle parking! The front wheel was locked to the rack, but the rest of the bike has gone. Often a front wheel of another bike will have been purloined to make up a whole bike.
The battle to eliminate wheel benders from Cambridge gets a massive punch in the face from this Boxing Club which has bodged some of the worst cycle racks in modern times against this Victorian era building.
This newly opened supermarket does not seem to have provided any cycle parking for customers. In contrast see this nearby supermarket: #35343
The 'phone boxes outside this former telephone exchange seem battered, ignored, and redundant. There's a huge demand for cycle parking in this area, as these signs confirm.
This supermarket did not provide any cycle parking for customers, and nor did the city council enforce its own planning regulations that would have forced it to find a solution. Hence there is a bike leaning against the shop, not properly s ... [more]
Lots of bikes cling to the balcony supports in this relatively new development. Clearly the cycle parking that was provided, (see nearby photos or e.g. #35319 and #35317) has been inadequate. It would have seemed easy in a new developmen ... [more]
Complicated wall mounted cycle racks in a ground level car park. Why ordinary Sheffield-style cycle parking couldn't be used here is beyond me. If you look carefully you'll notice that one of the racks in the middle of the photo has come aw ... [more]
By counting the blockwork, which are usually 10x20 cm, I estimate these racks on this fairly recent development have been placed at only 50 cm spacing. This is not what is in the planning guidance and means that space is wasted here.
There are barely any bike stands at Kings Cross - this is crazy for such a major transport interchange.
The existing bike racks at Arsenal tube station are poorly designed, as they are too close together, so it is difficult to lock the bike to the rack as you can't stand beside the bike to do so. It is also nearly always full. If Islington c ... [more]
This supermarket was allowed to open on this site without providing any cycle parking. For years the building next door (out of shot to the right, but see #17250) has had NO CYCLE PARKING signs affixed to its railings. This is another bl ... [more]
A bicycle clings to a lamppost in a residential street where all the gardens seem to have become car parks.
"Any Bike Found Chained to these Railings will be removed without notice and disposed of" 2 Hills Road, Encore Estates
Unsecured overflow college bike parking. Leads to crowded sidewalk. "The school should have space for all the bikes of the students" (Note the empty space behind the wooden fence)
Bikes parked along Purbeck road, obstructing sidewalk, many badly secured, all avoiding or excluded from on campus bike parking
Queen Elizabeth Hospital has NO cycle stands. I think it could use about 4 for the public and they should be where they are overlooked - perhaps covered - although no doubt the smokers who perpetuate that area would spill into it.
The worst kind of cycle parking, concrete wheel benders, two of which have been 'upgraded' with a wall anchor point. Grim. This is outside a nursery school.
Map states that there are bike stands here already but there are none. If they are planned it is great but currently bikes locked to lamp posts, trees and bus stop.
Another Appalling installation of cycle stands, one of many by Manchester Council in Wythenshawe civic centre, why not use the hardstanding on the right?
And Another Appalling installation of cycle stands, one of many by Manchester Council in Wythenshawe civic centre, they haven't got a clue!

there are a few (oversubscribed) stands here, but many are so close to the road they are dangerous to use, or so out-of-the-way they're insecure. The station has even put up signs discouraging parking bikes outside the station! This could e ... [more]
there are currently a few cute (if slightly disfunctional) bikes stands, but given the number of students far below the percentage goals.
several local businesses here. currently no provision for cycle parking, despite many cyclist, including young students, using the area.
several local shops/businesses located here. Many youth with bikes use this area. Currently no cycle parking provided.
Overflow parking at Grand Arcade cycle park. Every available bit of wall space take up with bikes. No signs warning cyclists not to do this, so it is seemingly tolerated. (Shh!)
No stands at all by the tube station, even though cycling is the best way to get to South Wimbledon from Wimbledon or Merton.
Bicycles not at all catered for in this housing development which dates (I guess) from the 1980s. Unfriendly NO CYCLES signs also scatter the development further eroding the happiness of this unwelcoming site.
Dismal failed cycle parking crammed in as a rubbishy after-thought onto the narrow space in front of parked cars.
There are some bike racks outside of SOAS and Senate House, but these are massively overcrowded. More could be created in the same location or nearby.
There used to be parking here, but removed due to construction work. Now there is no more cycle parking anywhere in Leicester Sq/Chinatown area. Unbelievable!
Some rather ugly and incompetently installed cycle parking at this pharmacy. Looks as though it has been sited to prevent car parking.
Going to the theatre on thu/fri evenings there is nowhere to park your bike as all stands packed up well above capacity and it could be good to have new stands installed in well lit areas detering thieves operating in the area.
Overflowing with bikes! Many towns and cities in the UK are envious of Cambridge's level of cycling, but here the council has been slow to understand and respond to the demand with the result that cyclists are blamed for blocking access.

Altrincham cycle parking next to Meehan and Co, Under the bridge Unliked butterfly racks which do not support the bike. Could easily be replaced with Sheffield Sands
New Bond Street, as close as possible to Oxford Street retailers (e.g. Zara). No provision at present. If pavement is too narrow to accomodate stands, remember that 1 car space = 10 bicycles
I frequently attend the Building Centre's events and conferences, but always find saturated cycle stands. The Building Centre would certainly support LCC in lobbying for cycle stands and for a pedestrianisation of the crescent.
Immediately near the entrance of Palestra (TfL Streets' HQ), cycle provision should be improved in quality and quantity. This may also deter crime because there is 24/7 security presence at Palestra.
This location is key to much local travel, near to the College, Student Halls, Tube and Stadium. ~10 racks could be installed easily on the pedestrianised area.

There are stands there, but not enough. It would be nice if they were covered/nearer to the entrance where they can be seen.
There are a few stands here but they are full to overflowing. One cannot carry loads of shopping from M&S very far. It is ironic that the picture I found of M&S is almost obscured by the car...

Cycle parking at IKEA Amsterdam. While I've only visited IKEAs in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, I don't think the situation at other countries' IKEAs is too dissimilar.
Replace one or two car parking spaces with a set of bike racks. This could be done all around Romsey.
