This cycle path is being resurfaced so one lane of the road has been taken from drivers as a temporary cycle path while works continue. Note that there is also a cycle path on the opposite side of the road, but cyclists are not told to c ... [more]
Awkward pram-handles removed after complaints over several years by the Campaign - success! This junction point is now much easier to pass for both cyclists and walkers. Compare with before: #9023
A bike ride from Chippenham to Calne. The sign warns that: "The cycleway will be CLOSED to all traffic between Blackdog and Stanley every THURSDAY from 9am to 3:30pm from November to February inclusive."
A nicely generous chicane - but probably like this to help mobility scooters as this path is no cycling.
These yellow posts are a distinctive feature of the Milton Keynes redway system - crossing a residential road here.
Sustrans gate on the NCN67. This one has been opened so that it can easily be bypassed.
Another cycle access gate, the mobility scooter got through this gap too - after she folded in her wing mirror.
These bicycle access narrowings vary a bit some quite tight, others loose. There's a horse step over on the left.
Another restriction - necessary here to stop motor vehicles getting onto the bridge behind the camera. This is on the TPT see: http://www.transpenninetrail.org.uk/
These narrowings are necessary, but to be honest a bit wearing, along this cycle route.
Necessary restriction on NCN routes to permit cycles, but prohibit motorised vehicles.
I think that's a channel on the left edge of these steps, to help wheel bikes, then again it might just be a drain.
Sometimes there can be terrible obstructions for cyclists on Dutch streets. This is one of the main streets through Assen.
James with some highly reflective bollards outside the junction of Highsett with Hills Road.
This gate is now pinned ajar to let cyclists through, but why is there a big sign on the left asking them to dismount?
The Boris Bikes just fit through these filters - but the gates were wide open anyway. The Greenway - a disused railway line - see #29722 for opening times.
These chicanes are now wide enough that it is apparently possible to read your text messages while cycling through them ;-)
Proof that deliveries and works to this hotel do not need to be done by blocking the Regent Street cycle lane near Pizza Hut.
These bollards have been moved further apart so that they can allow wider non-motorised traffic, such as tricycles and trailers.
Much improved bollard arrangement at the start of the path to the Riverside Bridge. The previous pair of bollards forced people entering and leaving the path into each others' way, creating conflict and confusion (see #13896 ). This singl ... [more]
The angle makes all the difference. This barrier, locked open, should be negotiable by all path users.
ruhrtalradweg - an excellent ferry-crossing - for you and your bike. Don't try to move to the other side with your bike on your shoulder. wait for the ferry, it ist better for you.
Road works have caused the cycle path to be closed, so as it normal in Dutch practice, half the road has been taken for the exclusive use of cyclists. This results in cyclists being able to continue their journeys unhindered, but motoris ... [more]

Removal of guard-railing here is a great improvement at a difficult corner for cyclists: it effectively increases the usable road width by half a metre.
Gate opened in order to allow a car in, further round to the left. This makes getting through this area much easier. Could this be done more often?
An obstruction on the cycle path... actors putting on a show. This was part of a free to enter "cycling and culture" ride organised by the local council. You can see a video of this here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4gob1PEdGsY

This car may look in the photo as if it's overtaking the cyclists, but it's not. There is no one in the car, which is parked. The driver has chosen to park in such a way that he blocks the road instead of the cycle lane. Assen, Netherlan ... [more]
