Hand over all your carrots if you want to get through! (The National Trust's Konig ponies are supposed to be wild, but they're getting street-wise.)
Interesting and perhaps clever use of bollards to slow down cyclists at a busy entrance to the Sedgwick Site from West Road. You can still cycle through but have to wiggle, which slows you down enough, but not too much to be a pain. But the ... [more]
This gateway feature is a little too awkward to get through for a start to a cycle route. The mobility scooter waited patiently for us to pass.
Dangerous new pole in the middle of the cycle path under Eastway bridge. Not well liteup. thanks to whoever added their old reflective jacket onto the pole for safety!
The positioning of this sign is really annoying, but on the other hand it does force you to slow down as you negotiate this rather narrow and entirely unsatisfactory shared use arrangement.
Seemingly pointless gate on this connecting route between Green End road and Gainsborough Close.
See video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONG9O1UxpT8 Not so much of a problem to me, but anyone coming the other way is completely stuffed. The temporary roadsigns make no reference to a closed cyclelane in either direction. The only ... [more]
This is an example of a modern removable bollard, splendidly adorned with two large reflective bands. This one appears to be branded Autopa.
The towpath of the Canal Saint-Martin, Paris, closed for fire station access (cyclists can enter, but there's no easy way out at the other end).
There's great provision for cyclists in Munich, but it mainly follows the main road axes. What they don't do is open up little cut-throughs like this one which could be very useful.
Its a shame that this is also no-cycling - and there's quite a lot of fencing at the end, so perhaps it is used for cycling anyway.
Barriers on NCN 14 - Hidcote Way Note that these barriers were installed where road traffic must give way to traffic on the cycle track =(
Weave barrier where NCN41 leaves the road and drops to the cycleway on the former railway line, the Great Central Way
No access to the road across Llyn Briane dam - I'm sure the mountain bikers would love to get across!
A new cycle path on McMullen Road, 2 years old, now blocked for many users by newly installed barriers. The reason? A quiet, private, cul-de-sac with just a few houses. It seems the occupants are unable to look out for cyclists as they driv ... [more]
Poor quality access onto this cycle route. A cycle tour of Edinburgh at the CycleNation / CTC conference, November 2010.
Concrete blocks restricting the maximum possible width on NCN 11, east of the Reach Lode bridge—latter is visible in background. Location approximate.
Access from Alway (behind Camera) to Lliswerry (other side of railway line) you can "just" get a bike through there but its a flippin' nightmare with panniers or a trailer-bike !
access under the railway from Lliswerry (behind camera) to Alway.(other side of railway) you can "just" get a bike through these barriers
Rather bad photo of the end of a path onto this busy road. Cycle ride from Cambridge to Histon, through King's Hedges and Arbury.
There's a public footpath through the Firle Park estate, but they're keen to keep people out otherwise.
After checking that the roadworks were really not operational we moved this sign clear of the cycle path. Reach Fair Reconnaissance ride - 2010
Stepped access only to the otherwise excellent bridge across the railway at Arsenal's Emirates stadium.
What is a cycle lane good for if cars are queueing in it? Gilbert Road needs to change! In this 4 min series: #21515, #21516, #21517, #21518.
There should be no cycle lane obstruction in Gilbert Road. In this 4 min series: #21515, #21516, #21518, #21519.
Gate and horse step-through on bridleway - not great for cyclists. Surface is also very poor for cycling.
Truck blocking cycle crossing while repairing the ironwork and pothole shown at #20321 (also the chap who offered me a 'drive-through Big Issue').
'End of Route' - permanently closed, in fact, due to the new access to the Cavendish Lab just west (see following photos).
Anti motorcycle barrier (York style) There is a swing barrier and cattle grid to keep animals out and narrowing intended to allow wheelchair access but not motorbike access

This is where the NCR21 meets up with NCR4 and local routes 2 and 18 by Creek Road bridge, London SE8. Building work has made the route sign almost invisible (it's behind the red barrier) and, as it's the last place for free parking before ... [more]
New path feeding housing development. Needs a gap in the fence here though to give access to these houses without having to jump the rail or go up and back down again.
Overgrown bridleway - but it's probably not a route to develop for cycling, as it emerges right on the M11 slip road.
Footpath to Dray Drayton - not accessible to wheelchairs and buggies, so why spend so much money on an accessible bridge just 100 metres south? or is there a plan to convert the footpath to a cycle route?
Old Bridge @ Ilkley Only just passable due to barriers in place to stop cars / Motorbikes.
Pinch point; there is a space left to the left where a removable gate could be put back in place if motorbikes create problems.

Flashy new footbridge by Frank Gehry in Chicago's Millennium park - no cycling, alas.

Osney Lane totally blocked at Oxpens Road except for pedestrians (there's a zebra crossing immediately to the right).
Osney Lane totally blocked at Oxpens Road except for pedestrians (there's a zebra crossing immediately to the right).
Of course the road is open to pedestrians and cyclists, but the TRO can probably only be for a total closure.
