Elizabeth Road / Milton Road roundbout. Shared use pavement signate at Highworth Avenue is confusing.
A sign agonizes about the compexity of providing sufficient cycle parking for students at the library, but pleasingly admits additional cycle parking will be provided in the summer.
PRIVATE PROPERTY Do not lock bicycles to these railings There are some decent cycle racks a little further down the road.
The sign on the lamp-post at the left suggests "Steal a bike!" in big letters. Its only if you go up and read the small print that it makes it clear this is some kind of iffy 'dare you' type crime reduction measure.
Mixed message: "Get off the pavement, except when its convenient for traffic management purposes." #35225 shows the other side of this sign, which invites riders onto the pavement.
Only in Cambridge? A gold coloured frame politely states the case for the privacy of this drainpipe. For more context see #35148. 66 on y' bike A message to our kind, thoughtful and considerate customers. Please do not under any ci ... [more]
Tomorrow I'm going to ride around until I get stopped and claim that my wedding ring is bullion.
There should be an Except Cycles plate under the No Right Turn sign - that's a contraflow cycle lane.
Euuugh! But at least there are some cycle racks nearby, see #33924 and #33921 - but maybe not enough it this sort of threat is needed.
This is the sort of confusing arrangement we had before the "Except Cycles" sign was permitted. The blue sign doesn't legally prohibit vehicles, but the road marking does say No Entry Except Cycles - so it is ambiguous. The new arrangeme ... [more]
Curious sign that reads: STAFF & VISITOR BICYCLES ONLY points to a dire need for much more cycle parking for all. The people being excluded by this sign are the schoolchildren at the adjacent school. Appalling!
Annoying sign persecuting young would-be cyclists, where there's no similar ban on driving. See #33344. Also what does it mean to stride it? Presumably remain on the saddle and whisk along? And the middle bit is a 'No Cycling' sign, but ... [more]
The sign on this gate (see close-up in #33345) reads: STRIDE IT... DON'T RIDE IT! But curiously drivers of motor vehicles are not requested to get out and push.
Sign reads: "Following a trial of the double tier rack, Westminster City Council and English Heritage have indicated their opposition to any use of such racking in a permanent design, as being too visability intrusive and not in keeping to ... [more]
It seems that surfers, like cyclists, suffer similar kinds of unwelcoming rules as to which trains they can take their equipment on board. But this information notice at Newquay Station has generated some chatter. Apparently First Great ... [more]
No Entry except for authorised vehicles - how many cyclists will know they are authorised? (The Cambridge Gateway - not yet shown on OpenCycleMap)

Cycle Crossing signs for the Trans Pennine Trail at York racecourse - although the one to the left has been turned 180 degrees.
I have no idea why they bothered with a few metres of footway on the other side of the cycleway, let alone the pointless Cyclists Dismount signage.
Surely this sign is the wrong way around? And why the obsession with making cyclists dismount to cross a lightly used busway anyway?
This notice has been put up along the corridor of the cycle park leading to the stairs and lifts where people leave their bikes if the racks are full. Clearly, more racks are needed.
This is a Notice of Change of Right of Way from a footpath to restricted byway issued by South Cambridge District Council for the route from here to Sawston. It asks for any objections to be raised by 25th May 2011, or about 2 months ago. ... [more]
Presumably cyclists are meant to leave the road and pass to the right of the sign - unclear.
This should be two-way for cycling (linking with a potential cut-through to the west).
The NO PEDESTRIANS sign here is right next to the footway that runs to the left of the crash barrier. Technically speaking a pedestrian using that path to cross the mouth of the on-ramp to the motorway is in violation of that signage. Surel ... [more]
No Through Road signs in Bothwell on NCN route 74 to Blantyre. Spot the NCN 74 route confirmation sign!
No cycling on the recreation ground, Bradford on Avon - although it would provide some very useful routes.
Cyclists certainly need to beware pedestrians here, but there's no need for a cycling ban.
Lots of No Cycling signs on the path to Filton Abbey Wood - couldn't they just widen it?
Lots of No Cycling signs on the path to Filton Abbey Wood - couldn't they just widen it? And provide proper parking too?
Lots of space for car parking - but no space apparently for cycling - yet the presence of the mean spirited no cycling sign here does suggest there is a desire to use this as a convenient cut through!
The sign on the right says "Pedestrians be aware of construction traffic" - which is of course the wrong way around!
I suppose this cycle road marking is a reminder to drivers that cyclists exist? I don't know its actual significance. Coventry Road, Hinckley.
The no cycling sign here demonstrates that there is a desire for cycling along here, but that the need has not been met. It should be easily possible to make this a cyclable route - if there was the will.
Loads of room here could make a really convenient cut-through that is cyclable. The "No Cycling" symbol is really a sign that there is a desire for this to be cyclable, and that there is failed permeability and planning.
Random use of priority signs in housing estate. They were sent out with the correct 4 signs, but only 2 got put up the right way up and in the correct location!
The "CYCLISTS DISMOUNT" sign was removed after earlier complaints, but has reappeared. Presumably due to rightful complaints about pavement cyclists, but due to the ambiguous positioning partially on the highway, some drivers are assuming i ... [more]
Strange to have the End of Cycle Route sign before the bridge - are cyclists meant to dismount? Why are these signs needed anyway?
You cycle to almost the end of the seafront cycle path and you hit a Cycling prohibited and cyclists dismount sign, with no way to get from there on to the road and further along the south coast cycle route. Ideally this would be changed su ... [more]
I haven't ever previously seen signs that actually say "Don't Cycle on the pavement" - in this case using a NO CYCLING sign - but with an extra line through it. A little further up the road, the pavement has been converted to permit paveme ... [more]
Patronizing sign whose aim seems to be avoidance of liability if a cyclist jolts their bike because there is a bit of a ramp ahead. Otherwise this is an excellent bridge.
Thank you Corporation of London. Cars and pedestrians are allowed to mix amicably in Wanstead Park, but ban cycling, this highly dangerous mode of transport. There isn't even cycle parking giving the message that you are not welcome at all ... [more]
Artistic response to finger wagging signage ! The top sign spells out in detail some archaic by-law that 'CYCLES MUST ONLY USE THE SPACES PROVIDED' blah blah blah. The main poster (which is now quite old and faded) announces CYCLE REMOVA ... [more]
No cycling (or roller-blading) across the central park in Interlaken - most unusual in switzerland.
Nonsense - motor vehicles aren't allowed in this direction anyway, whereas the street is in fact open as usual for cycling.
'Cyclists Dismount' on NCN route 4 - why on earth, so far short of such a quiet dead-end road?
End of Route - Cyclists Dismount - Carmarthenshire's legal department is as negative as Cambridgeshire's.
Very well hidden sign to the cycle store at Stow Court - Stow cum Quy - presumably intended for staff, not visitors.
"Cycles causing an obstruction to vehicle parking spaces will be removed and destroyed without warning under Rail Byelaws." I'm used to seeing mean spirited and unfriendly anti-cyclist signage at the railway station. But this sign indica ... [more]
Surely they mean 'Be Aware of cyclists'? Sadly the 'Beware' signs are repeated in many locations around Rugby.

You can't see the context here, but were you in a position to obey this sign, you would have been cycling the wrong way up the road.
Cycling prohibited on the shared use path on the Hinckley bypass (Normandy Way). Blue signs are only advisory so presumably the red cycling prohibited sign trumps the blue one for this section. Welcome to Leicestershire 2011 - yes to ... [more]
Bizarre five-metre gap in the cycle route parallel to the main road into Holyhead. Is this what was really intended?
Along with hoodies, alcohol, and dogs - bicycles are prohibited from being taken into this surgery! I can't see any obvious cycle parking, except perhaps the railings for this access ramp.
There should be some indication that this road leads to the new Whittlesford to Sawston cycle path.
The sign in #28182 says No Through Route, this says dead end except for access to hospitals - both should make it clear that this is a through route for cyclists.
Nonsense! It's a through route for cycles (even if they have to detour briefly onto the roadway at the moment).
The best 20 mph sign in Cambridge. The Council(s) wasted money (I'll find a quote) installing this sign which (a) faces the wrong way up Sidney Street---a one-way street and (b) even if pedal cycles were allowed to contraflow down Sidney St ... [more]
Advisory 'Cyclist Dismount' signs imposed by the county council's lawyers - if cyclists really did dismount it would grind to a halt in the rush hour, but weekend dog-walkers don't see it this way.
