Pictures of cycling infrastructure in and around Oldenburg, Germany. Located between Bremen (D) and Groningen (NL). In a study by "vcö" (Traffic Club Austria) about the share of trips by bike in larger European cities Oldenburg appears in second place with 43% of all trips by bike, just behind first placed Houten in the Netherlands with 44%, see http://www.camcycle.org.uk/newsletters/109/article14.html .
A cycling budget of just €2.50 per inhabitant goes a long way, because cycleways have been planned into all road projects since the 1960. Also pavement cycleways have priority over side roads. On a Cambridge Cycling Campaign study tour to Oldenburg experienced useful and usable segregated cycleways, which always there when needed! Cycling is popular and feels safe for all abilities and ages: http://www.camcycle.org.uk/newsletters/109/article8.html
