Ashton on Mersey Trafford near MCR Access from Banky Lane to off road Bridleway path. National Grid have replaced the access restrictions twitter.com/Cyclinstructor/status/785884042331684864 (A frame bollards and horse stile ) from Banky Lane with just bollards (the abandoned A frame is still in place but not used. With the restrictions in place it was clear the horse stiles were not being used. #43920 These bollards have been in place for over 2 years now with no complaints from horse riders. Spec bollards are 1.25 metres high and spaced 1.2 metres apart. The British Horse Society's document Advice on Vehicle Barriers states "... If motorcycles are the problem on a bridleway, a horse stile or
‘horse-friendly vehicle barrier’ may be required, but only if they are proven to
prevent the illegal access as they may also restrict legitimate users. In this case a horse stile would NOT prevent a motorcycle or quad bike from entering as they would just use the gap between the bollards !
