Typical scene alongside one of the canals in Amsterdam, in this case the Keizergracht. Bollards separate the pedestrians from other traffic, and bikes are parked everywhere.

The bollards are known as Amsterdammertje - notice how they are set along the edge of the carriageway, unlike the practice in Cambridge - see #8615.

Also, I read in my Rough Guide to the Netherlands that the city authorities were planning to remove them... that is until a petition of 50,000 was raised to save them.
