[Image taken 8.12.20.] Exhibition Square, York (4/5). To the right of the Art Gallery is a gate. It leads to open space. But you have to know it's there to find it. It doesn't look as if the public is permitted through the gates. It doesn't look as if there's anything you'd want down there. This should be a vibrant interactive place - table tennis, attractive seating arranged sociably, you seek out for (sociable) atmosphere among 'ancient' buildings and walls... Instead, it's another (like North Street, York) space that's simply a place you move through or past. The wasted opportunity to bring this central space to life rankles every time I pass.
