All seven bridges connecting the two sides of the city of Görlitz over the Neisse River destroyed by the retreating German army in May 1945. This modern bridge to the old town and Zgorzelec is walking and cycling only. Since December 2007, when Poland joined the Schengen Area, there have been no regular border checks at these crossings.
