[Image taken 6.3.21] Ron Cooke Hub, University of York. This Sheffield rack has not been moved to accommodate cycles that are longer in front. However, it has been designated an 'oversized' cycle parking space with a bespoke sticker and graphic painted on the tarmac. See also today: #165050, #165051. Other examples added later: #170169 and links. Other racks at the Uni from today see #165052.
On 18.3.21, the University replied to questions about its oversized spacing:
Oversize cycle parking:
...following user feedback (in this case comments from our staff Disability network), we have begun to mark up a number of existing cycle bays as accessible bays and (separate bays) designated for oversize bikes. This has initially been done at a limited number of locations (five wide spaces and 6 accessible bike bays within racks around 4 commonly-used buildings) in July 2020 but will be extended to other areas/buildings where a) required by disabled bike users and b) where existing bike parking layouts allow the space for oversize bikes.
Existing provision is unlikely to be adjusted, but new cycle parking provision will aim to create 5% of bays for oversize bikes going forward.
