[UPDATE: The floodgates have been replaced. The route re-opened 19.11.21] [Update: The closure has been extended to 22 October 2021.] Update: Date of closure announced. An Environment Agency email from 28.4.21 said the route would close 4.5.21 and "We currently expect the section of Wellington Row to remain closed until the start of the school summer holidays in July. Please note that throughout the road closure, the Perky Peacock café will remain open and can be accessed from the steps off Lendal Bridge or from the riverside walk past the Memorial Gardens." Scene at around 15.00 on Thursday afternoon during lockdown (only essential journeys, only essential(s) shopping, no meeting outside of your household, work from home, no attractions open, takeaways only...) Ahead of closing of Wellington Row for the replacing of floodgates under Lendal Bridge, and a necessary diversion for riverside users. Two of us did 30 minutes of counting between the pedestrian-cyclist entrance to/exit from Esplanade car park and Lendal Bridge. Total number of humans - all ages ie including babies in prams/pushchairs - 109, cyclists - 29. See also: #166253, #166177, #165865
