An email reply dated 13.4.21 from City of York Council about the decision to remove the covid-19 corridor said:
"...appropriate representations [were made] at public consultation stage last autumn and these were considered by the Executive Member at his public Decision Session held on 3rd November 2020. He made the decision to widen the formal path (Railway Walk) to a consistent 3.4 metres wide (which is on average 1.0 metres wider than the existing).
As noted in the Decision:
iv. That as part of the Stage 3 Safety Audit the Council monitors the use of the path by both cyclists and pedestrians;
v. That officers consider the placement of street lighting to ensure future proofing wherever possible.
As such, the lamp columns currently being repositioned are being done in such a way to future-proof for any potential future further widening. However pressures on Marygate car park, especially during 2021 are expected to be very high and it is very unlikely that any further widening will be considered at this particular time."
