Encroachment into the ASL is common. This example is a minor infringement. It shows the blind corner that pedestrians approach from this side and pedestrians and cyclists turn into from Wigginton Road. Very many pedestrians pass the mouth of this junction as the hospital is only a few hundred metres further north. They are often elderly, with mobility aids or in wheelchairs. Bridge Lane is also a key link for many people on foot and on cycles to/from many directions and destinations including the rail station, York St John University, the city centre, residential areas on this and the other side of the York-Scarborough rail line over which there is a footbridge.
