[Image taken 23.4.21] Hurricane Way, York. The 'facilities' from/across Clifton Moor Gate for cyclists lead them onto the inadequate width path (on right in image) but see also: #167368, #167369. Many of us prefer to use the road. Access is either onroad around the Tesco roundabout - more direct, intuitive and much quicker if you are coming from the south of it see: #167815 but requires confidence. Or involves crossing Clifton Moor Gate north of the roundabout using several toucan crossings. At the final one (see: #167367) instead of continuing onto the shared use path you wait for a gap in the parallel motor traffic (which has a green light at the same time as the toucan) and join the carriageway to be where this cyclist is. But it's not straightforward and very often requires the cyclist to make yet another stop (and therefore start from a standstill). It was also not clear that drivers could be approaching from the right (behind you) as you joined the carriageway. There are changes taking place here in April-May 2021 see: I am not sure they will enable people on cycles to join the carriageway.
