[Image taken 8.5.21] Duncombe Place, York. There’s shared use space for the full length of the Minster on this side. This means it’s permeable for people on foot or cycling between Duncombe Place or High Petergate (Bootham Bar end) and Deangate along Minster Yard. It's popular with local people, particularly families during lockdown (March 2020-April 2021). But getting there on foot and on cycle is unpleasant. Very many drivers approach from Museum Street (over Lendal Bridge) find they cannot go anywhere so have to turn round. These unpredictable movements make the end at the bollarded entry/exit with Minster Yard chaotic and hazardous. Drivers also wait here - as on this wet Saturday afternoon. The driver of the black vehicle is on the two-way cycle lane – there’s a cycle symbol and is blocking the gaps between the bollards. When the city is busy it’s fraught here.
