[Image taken 9.5.21] Clifton Moor Gate looking towards Hurricane Way, York. It’s not possible to cross in one go. The lights for this toucan are red while the ones for the further crossing to Hurricane Way (with Sofology on the corner) are green.
The TSAR (Traffic Signal Asset Renewal) scheme rolling out across York is replacing all pedestrian-cyclist crossing lights. This means all lights are ‘same side’ ones. Even at those locations where the number or people or the formation of people crossing extends to the ‘blind’ side of the poles with the lights on (see: #169578). I do not believe this practice is appropriate for York or safe. In some or all of the locations a second (higher) set was subsequently added to increase the chances of people being able to see them. As here, they are still on the same side though.
