[Image taken 21.5.21] Leeman Road, York. Exiting from here onto Station Avenue has always been difficult and fraught. (It's part of the Lendal gyratory the introduction of which made the road environment even less attractive and conducive to active travel.) This contraflow cycle lane is part of the Wellington Row diversion and therefore even more people, some of whom are less than confident cyclists, and people on longer, wider or heavier rigs are being directed to this route. Wheelchair users too according to the signs at the other end. The issue is joining the near lane of traffic. Going up the kerbside as this cyclist is doing does not enable you to become part of the traffic. (The equipment on the right, the grey box, is a push button control to help people reach the other line of traffic, where the bus is.) Other images today see also: #169487 and links
