[Image taken 4.5.21] Bridge Lane junction with Wigginton Road, York. The removable bollard viewed from a parallel road. The bollard is visible from further away but not, I argue, to people on cycles turning into Bridge Lane from Wigginton Road (Co-op corner). A CYC officer said: "The access to Bridge Lane from Wigginton Road was changed as part of the traffic systems work to renew the traffic lights in the area. It was always intended to replace the small lockable bollard and the TSAR works at the junction included the sheaf for the bollard to be easily installed."
"Without the bollard the width of access was sufficient for vehicle entry and complaints were received about vehicle access and parking. As a consequence of this complaint it was noted the bollard had not been installed and this was requested and installation took place earlier this year."
The reinstating of the bollard has not stopped people parking on the double yellows in Bridge Lane. Drivers of smaller/narrower vehicles seem to be able to get in and out. Such movements would put people on foot, cycles and wheelchairs at risk. And cause unnecessary stress in one of the few stretches of infrastructure that are designed to be motor vehicle-free and are sufficiently wide you can move in sociable/protective (parent and child, for example) formation.
