[Update: CYC has said this is not one of their machines. I have responded that having one would give officers insight into some of the realities of the infra, and the experience of people who ride with wider heavier cycles including due to health issues.] [Image taken 4.5.21] Toft Green, York. City of York (CYC) staff cycle parking. Is this e-trike part of the CYC fleet? Perhaps even the machine used for pothole reporting? It is an example of what I call a 'York' cycle: #167492. It could be used to test for accessibility: many York streets, including a trike user told me, Lendal Bridge, have a camber that makes using a three-wheeler tricky. There are also too many obvious barriers: #167735 and chicanes that are too tight to accommodate anything other than the 'turning circle' of a pedestrian: #169123; cycle routes too narrow for the amount of use including past the bottom of the steep slope between Marygate car park and Scarborough Bridge - see: #169471; and cycle racks that are too close: #167919 or have an upstand: #167924; diversions with features that are uncomfortable or worse: #169491. CYC has said: “the council does not have a “disability spokesperson” as such. "It is the responsibility of individual officers, as they bring forward any new initiatives, projects or policies, to conduct an equality impact assessment. The outcome of this should be reported to members in any relevant committee report or decision paper. Where there may be impacts on disabled people there should be appropriate discussion with representative groups in order to explore the implications more fully.” Other images CYC cycle parking today: #169608 and links.
