This is a cycle link !
It connects Abbey Street on the South Side of Newmarket Rd, to Abbey Road and the Riverside path on the north.
It is narrow, confined, and full of obstructions, but a necessary improvement.
It could be improved dramatically by re-distributing one of the traffic lanes coming off the roundabout to create a wide shared pavement - you do not need as many lanes comming OFF a roundabout as you do going ONto it.
In the Netherlands it is common practice to have only one exit lane from roundabouts. It also significantly improves safety.
