[Image taken 27.9.21] Bootham, York. Heavy rain put the advisory cycle lanes and much of the carriageway under water. Much of the puddle on the right was still here the next day. Climate change means wetter winters and drier summers (www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/climate-change/effects-of-climate-change). That means more surface flooding in winter but also in summer: after long periods of dry weather the drains may be clogged with leaves, debris, dust, etc, and cannot cope with the run-off. Surface water at the edges of the roads extending into carriageways and cycle lanes do not go together. Segregated lanes are planned for this route: www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/19022756.upgrade-plan-main-road-york/ Other image here today: #174506. Other images today: #174488 and links.
