[Update 16.3.22: #180123] [Image taken 9.11.21] Bootham, entrance to Grosvenor Terrace, York. Now the leaves have gone, perhaps the ahead only sign is clearer. The CYC active travel officer pointed out it’s too high though. And until the recent heavy rain it was not visible. Why it matters? Because two drivers have exited this junction (ie towards the camera position) when I have been trying to turn in. This puts cyclists trying to enter, in a precarious position. Bootham is a busy road and you can find yourself sandwiched between quite fast-moving motor traffic (Clifton-Bootham has a 30 limit) some of which are large (buses, transporters, lorries). As the person making the wrong manoeuvre is in a motor vehicle you are are unable to communicate s/he needs to reverse: that it is one way the other way. Other issues are that drivers undertake using the kerbside space including when another driver coming from the direction of Clifton Green (left if you are facing into Grosvenor Terrace) is waiting for you to make the turn. Further, there are almost always pedestrians approaching and they have right of way. A driver exiting here adds to a location that is already complicated and never predictable.
