[Update April 2022: I noticed recently the sign has finally been removed (from behind the railings, lying on the ground). It was not doing its job. It was simply litter and like litter was attracting more rubbish and making the area less attractive and less safe-feeling.] [UPDATE: 4.1.22] The sign is once again on display - to the right of where it is here but in front of the railings, on the hard surface in the corner of the railings and the fencing/vegetation. [UPDATE: A FoI to CYC on 21.12.21 elicited a reply on 22.12.21 from the Sustainable Transport Manager including about costs: "We do not hold cost information for individual signs, but the total cost of providing the sign is likely to have been between £100 and £200. Signs are purchased from third party suppliers and we do not hold information the individual costs itemised. The cost of putting the sign out is assessed to have been approximately £25 (two Highways workers for 15 minutes – the sign was put out at the same time as many others across York so we do not have a cost for this sign individually). Central Government provided funding to all local authorities to pay for covid related signage. I (personally) was not aware that this sign was either a hazard or not visible before your e-mail – for which many thanks. It is important that such signs are visible and we will reposition it."] [UPDATE: 21.12.21 Covid levels (Omicron variant) are increasing but the yellow sign is now overturned and horizontal, still behind the railings and still useless.] [UPDATE: 3.12.21 The yellow sign still as in this image.] [UPDATE 20.11.21: The sand has gone. The sign remains.] [Image taken 12.11.21] York rail station, York. [NOTE: No streetview at this location.] Context: #175433. Other images today: #175797 and links.
