After a gap of a couple of miles, a permanent cycleway starts on London Road at the London Drive junction. It continues through the Mount Vernon junction onto Hamilton Road. Cycle lights allow cyclists across from the eastbound carriageway onto the new cycle track.
This section of the A74 was bypassed by the M74 motorway some years ago.
