[Image taken 11.1.22] Marygate car park, York from Frederic Street/Marygate Lane pedestrian entrance/exit. [NOTE: NO streetview at this location.] View of the location and extent of the EV bays. Four have already been marked with the symbols (white on blue). Many people on cycles, on foot and in/with mobility aids, use the car park as a cut-through in this and the reverse direction to avoid the cobbles (see: #177538, #177542). I'm concerned the EV bays will increase motor vehicle movements here (and on the network to/from the car park) and make it even less safe for people passing through the car park whether local people on foot, cycle and in wheelchairs, or visitors arriving in a motor vehicle and changing mode. When the new slope is built I think more people will avoid using the lane as the number of users, the variety and the size of cycle will increase. The aim is that the route will be (more) accessible than the existing steps and cycle runner is (see: #175872). People with buggies and wheeled luggage will be able to use it too. I feel it will be oversubscribed and congested as Railway Walk already is. And reduce the safety of users including those with limited or no sight and the attraction of active travel.
