[Update see: #180045 and links] [Image taken 14.1.22] Bootham junctions with Grosvenor Terrace (left) and Bootham Terrace (right), York. Context ahead of work (due to start 17.1.22 according to a CYC email [UPDATE: signs on 18.1.22 have a date of 24.1.22 see: #177853] on the crossing to link the rail station and the hospital: #177537. One email from CYC said it was expected that people coming from this far out along Bootham and heading for Scarbrough Bridge, the rail station, etc, would turn right here and use Bootham Terrace. There is no provision for making this turn. (The sign shows this is a no entry for motor vehicles “Except for access”. However, the massive uptick in deliveries of meals, groceries, goods, etc, that developed during the corona pandemic means many more vehicles are making this turn, and exiting here.) Queueing traffic in the morning peaks, evening peak, at weekends and at other times comes back further than this. This means cyclists must try to enter the queueing traffic and wait in it till they can make the turn. This exposes us to air pollution and drivers including of very large vehicles passing on our left, often closely. There is also no provision for the many pedestrians who cross here. (It is a desire line in both directions.) Or for cyclists exiting Bootham Terrace and turning right or heading straight over to Grosvenor Terrace. #177761, #177763, #177764, #177765, #177767, #177768, #177770, #177772.
