[Image taken 16.3.22] Bootham, York. A driver passes cyclists. She/he has left space but has needed to go right up to the centre line. Would s/he have done so had there been queuing traffic in the oncoming lane stopped at the lights? I believe there should be no overtaking cyclists signs for the duration of the works. The carriageway was reduced to one lane when I used it in both directions. In the outward journey on the other carriageway (see: #180126) despite my positioning myself in the centre of the lane (I arrived first at the lights) and a second cyclist (on an e-bike) positioning herself ever further to the right of me, I could hear the driver behind repositioning him- herself to pass us as soon as the lights changed. Which is what happened. Plus, this image shows works vehicles are parked in the cobbled area next to the non-compliant and barely visible advisory cycle lane. They reduce the width of the carriageway available and specifically the width of the too narrow (LTN 1/20 Cycle

Additionally, they block the escape route of someone who needs to move out of the carriageway, for example if a driver passes too closely. (A common issue with the 'bendy' buses that use this route.) Further, people on cycles (and on Tier hire scooters) using the lanes have no protection from the parked vehicles should someone in one open a door. Other images today: #180123 and links.
