[Image taken on 27.3.22] Library Square, York. [Note: No street view at this location.] The racks are the practical Sheffield design, well located – close to the entrance to the destination (a library: York Explore), practically spaced (side to side and with room to manoeuvre in and out), well lit, have lots of natural surveillance, on level ground that is well drained and kept clear of rubbish and leaf litter. I feel safe in this space no matter the hour or how dark. It feels like a ‘people space’. I went to take images today while there was a festival (see: #180522) to show the importance of this space for ‘people’ – including those who cycle here. You can load and unload your cycle of human or other cargo in your own time. There is space to put on or take off layers after your journey or for the next part. A child is safe from fumes and motor vehicles. Or were. In 2021 the food pickup drivers for Deliveroo (see: #180370), JustEat (see: #177857) etc, started parking here while they or their co-worker went to get the order from local cafes, etc. But today someone told me there are plans to fix this. Though the person said they were not permitted to say what or when. Well used racks here today: #180522, #180524, #180525.
