[UPDATE: #183406] [Image taken on 27.3.22] Coppergate looking towards Piccadilly, York. New wands. Context: #180531. The measures along here: #180531, #180532 are not intuitive or legible. A cyclist who crossed into Coppergate from Clifford Street on foot (perhaps confused by the signage: #157639) got back on her cycle but cycled on the outside of the wands. Ie in the oncoming lane. Fortunately, the road was clear for the time it took her to reach the lights visible behind the bus and rejoin the lane. The wands look as if the narrow pavement has been extended out. The confusion is understandable and can be exacerbated when pedestrians are walking in the cycle lane. The pavement is really narrow in any situation but especially here where it is a shopping/family/sociable route. The cyclist and the bus were the only vehicles to use Coppergate while I was taking images today. But, a man (perhaps 50-60, casually dressed but in attire that looked new, with a hair cut that looked as if got regular attention) accompanied by a woman walked past me in the roadway. The man turned to me and said, “The best thing would be to kill all cyclists” and continued walking into Coppergate Walk. Other instance of unprovoked aggression and intimidation today: #180530. Other images today #180522.
