[UPDATE: 20.4.22 An email from CYC says: "I will ask the contractors to remove the One Way sign and locate it elsewhere." Later image: #181987] [Image taken 14.4.22] Mill Lane, York. The sign leaves only 68cm for pedestrians. It's not enough, as is clear from the room required for this person who volunteered to pose for me. There’s a park not far away, local shops... and even in the short time I stood here there were many people pushing buggies accompanied by handholding very young children. 68cm is not sufficient for an individual who is standing still, let alone someone moving or people in mobility scooters, wheelchairs... There’s also no room along here for wider users to pass each other… including anyone who has dismounted and is pushing a cycle. Plus, the left turn is now very tight and the carriageway that is open is very narrow. Many vehicles clipped the pavement as I stood and watched. There was a constant stream of 'people' traffic - (pedestrians, people on cycles) - more than the number of motor vehicles. I'd like to know why the road wasn't closed to motor vehicles and those living on this street and pedestrians and people on cycles given priority over use of the space. Other images today this subject: #181690 and links. Earlier issues this junction: #165640.
