[Image taken on 7.5.22] Exhibition Square, off St Leonard’s Place, York. The Sheffields here are very handy (for the theatre, the art gallery, the part of York University based here, the popup seating, to change mode and walk the walls/take a sightseeing bus/explore the city on foot/use the toilets opposite…). But they are very often full – as today. I’ve been asking CYC for several years what it’s doing to explore further options for cycle parking – not just locations but the actual formation/design as demand outstrips provision. And, of course the city has said the centre will be motor traffic free from 2023 (www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/dec/31/york-to-ban-private-cars-from-city-centre-within-three-years), so even more people will need parking to be able to move around the city, plus Gear Change (assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/904146/gear-change-a-bold-vision-for-cycling-and-walking.pdf) reiterates the Government statement: “England will be a great walking and cycling nation Places will be truly walkable. A travel revolution in our streets, towns and communities will have made cycling a mass form of transit. Cycling and walking will be the natural first choice for many journeys with half of all journeys in towns and cities being cycled or walked by 2030.” The location is also visually attractive: #182480. Context and links to all images today: #182461.
