[Image taken 19.5.22] Tesco, Clifton Moor, York. The 'Toblerone' shaped cycle racks don't support loaded cycles. Ie cycle used for utility purposes such as shopping at a supermarket. The uprights are too close together - you can only get one cycle in. The linking rails of these 'toastracks' have an upstand. My cycle does not have a long enough wheelbase to straddle the linking bars so it rolled forward and tipped. It is now unstable and difficult to right. There is no room to load my panniers (you need to stand at the side). And lifting a cycle in and out over two rails with upstands when there's no room to stand at right angles to it and its laden is uncomfortable and not easy. Very disappointing. The provision does not support the needs of the company's customers or their sustainable, active travel choices. Two people have used the side rails of the trolley parking area. Many people do. I do. They railings function like the top bar of standard (flat topped) Sheffields supporting the cycle and offering multiple places to fix a lock. There's no trying to squeeze between too narrow upstands or roll over linking rails. They also accommodate longer cycles. Other image here today: #182704. Other images today: #182702 and links.
