[Image taken 23.6.22] Exhibition Square, St Leonard’s Place, York. The art gallery has bloomed. Or is it exploded? It’s fun and fabulous and another reason to get around actively – you can alight and appreciate, dismount and marvel, stop and stare. It is part of the Aesthetica Art Prize (www.yorkartgallery.org.uk/exhibition/aesthetica-art-prize-2022/). It's a piece called ‘Portico' from an artist called Steve Messam: www.yorkmuseumstrust.org.uk/news-media/latest-news/eye-catching-installation-on-york-art-gallery-interrupts-the-familiar/ Context and links: #183693, #183694. It’s frustrating and concerning that motor vehicles are permitted in this people space. They add further actual dangers including from additional air pollution to a location that frequently reeks of fumes. The presence of cars and vans changes the perception from 'people' to 'motor vehicles' and from 'safe' to 'unpredictable' and therefore 'unsafe'.
