[Image taken 7.7.22] Platform for trains to Leeds/Harrogate, Starbeck rail station, Starbeck, North Yorks. [NOTE: No street view at this location.] Lockers for cycle storage. Pushing your cycle in is difficult even if it's a light cycle with no luggage... If you push it in forwards, the front wheel turns you can't push it further in and you can't reach the handlebars to straighten them. Assuming you can get it in (I couldn't) you need to be able to get the cycle out again. My partner said he thought he’d be able to reverse his in. However he has wide handlebars and there was just 1cm clearance each side. I was unable to push my cycle – it’s too heavy and cycles are typically around 180cm long. If you are trying to push them from one end, not above and not using the handlebars or without being able to correct the angle, it’s would be beyond most people’s capability or patience. If we’d had Oma/Opa (upright) Dutch-style cycles they would not fit in. If you had a big basket or a child seat, you couldn’t use these. The hooks on the door are for 'stuff'. When trying to pull the locker door too, I discovered another issue - there is no handle on the outside. I tried using the metal securing rings. They are small and due to the size, the shape and the material, they are difficult to get purchase on, plus you have to pull hard as the doors are heavy (and perhaps the hinges don't get oiled). When the rings were close enough to align I trapped my fingers. No wonder people use the Sheffields further along the platform instead despite lockers, in theory, offering greater security. But if you can't use them/can't use them easily, or painlessly, they won't be used. Money has been wasted by providing these. Other images this provision today and links: #184208.
