[Image taken 15.7.22] ExploreYork, (library), York. [Note: No street view at this location.] Longer rigs or setups with cycle trailers do not work easily or conveniently here. To have not 'tidied the trailer away' would have obstructed the gates to the adjacent green area: #183780. The owner said, "I did not want to take up more space than I needed.". However, in cold/wet weather, if someone were in a hurry, if the child/children were in need of food/the loo, etc, if the user were less mobile or less strong, I think finding another space might have been more realistic. The seating on the other side of Library Square fulfils the same function as the bollards here: #184752. Ie they protect the cycle/trailer and any passersby - no trip hazards including for people with sight issues. Trailers that are stowed in this way take up more space though: #182645. So if ensuring space for longer arrangements is good practice. Plus one of my cyclable city determinants is, Do people use trailers (and/or cargo cycles)? Providing cycle parking that supports such use is therefore part of the equation. The owner of this setup gave York rail station as an example of somewhere he can secure his cycle and the trailer easily and comfortably. The Sheffields are well spaced (between the supports, and from each other). He said in some places the front racks have been removed meaning there is room for longer rigs and that the racks are accessible (see: #165416). Other images this cycle-trailer setup: #184775, #184776. Other images today: #184777, #184778, #184779.
