[UPDATE 19.8.23 Reworked layout: #196850] [UPDATE 9.8.23: #196555]

[UPDATE December 2022: CYC will change the layout/the design of the buildouts. (Decision Session - Executive Member for Transport - Tuesday, 13 December 2022 10.00 am)

The design approved:
democracy.york.gov.uk/documents/s164252/Annex%20E%20-%20Skel%20Preliminary%20Design.pdf
"Resolved:
ii. Approved Option 2 – Approve the proposed Skeldergate scheme and scheme delivery arrangements described within this report and presented in Annex E of this document.

Reason: This option achieves the core aim of the scheme, which is to “improve safety, amenity and accessibility for cyclists on the route along Skeldergate, and to reduce and/or remove conflict at buildouts”.
I fear the changes will mirror the effect of the changes to Burton Stone Lane (see: #187753) and make it more dangerous to cycle here and less attractive to doing so. I hope the problems for pedestrians exacerbated on Burton Stone Lane by slaloming motor vehicles are not also replicated on Skeldergate.
[Image taken 18.7.22] Skeldergate, York. (Looking north with Middletons Hotel www.middletonsyork.co.uk/ on the left.) This street is a rat run and a bus route despite the fact there are no stops. It also floods very regularly. Despite the buildouts some motorists drive terrifying fast along this street. Many do not understand or respect the ‘turn taking’ the buildouts are supposed (I think) to encourage. Nothing about this street works – including for residents: yorkmix.com/please-end-our-traffic-nightmare-say-york-residents-after-23-accidents-and-near-misses/ Other image Skeldergate today and links: #184901.
