[Image taken 19.7.22] Terry Avenue (Millennium Bridge, end) York. [NOTE: No street view at this location] There is no signage declaring, “Terry Avenue is again open to people cycling, walking, wheelchairing. Come and enjoy the serenity, the shade, the respite from air and noise pollution”. The appearance – the huge floodworks sign and the infra (see also: #184918, #184920, #184921) are intimidating and proclaim the area is for motor vehicles. The change from 8.10.21 #174778 is too subtle. It needs a banner – you can see from the Millennium Bridge - proclaiming: “Welcome to Terry Avenue: A space for people”. Leaving it for people to find out by chance is not good enough. The reopening of Terry Avenue is not a secret. The reopening is not something York is ashamed of. (The closing of this route without creating an accessible, safe alternative, and with no legacy, is.) It is in CYC’s interests to enable people to move around actively and to look after their physical and mental health throughout their lives. Other images Terry Avenue today and links: #184930.
