[NOTE: On 27.8.22 I was sitting at the tables outside. No-one kept the crossing clear (the flimsy sign in the image has disappeared.) No-one that I noticed turned off their engine. As we were ready to leave an employee came out. I thought he was asking people to keep the crossing clear and turn off their engines. No. He was telling them there was a 20-minute wait. Some left. Others stayed. More arrived. Engines stayed on. The employee (French) said they were too busy to ask people to comply with the sign. A year after I sent my email about drivers not switching off their engines while queueing for food at this drive thru (context: #173069) and there’s an excellent outcome. There’s a new purple banner at Taco Bell (locations.tacobell.co.uk/york/monks-cross-drive.html). It asks drivers to "Please switch off car engine while waiting". I hope they will.
