[MY EXPERIENCE. On 22.2.23 I met Guildhall Ward Councillor Craghill here to explain that it's not just this crossing that needs a 'solution' - precipitated by the granting on 17.2.23 of planning permission for the development of Denning's Yard - but much larger scheme to address all the issues. As we stood just this side of the nearest blue bollard ie out of the route a woman on a cycle stopped to ask if we were there to do something. She said drivers exiting do so when the lights are red. Even as she was telling us this, a driver who had turned into the access road exited when the lights were red. Even in the short time Cllr Craghill and I were here several drivers turned into this space - some had, as I've noted when I've been here for any length of time, made a mistake so simply turned round and left, one seemed to have done it specifically to drop someone off.]

[Image taken 2.11.22] Denning’s Yard Access, (Crichton Avenue/Wigginton Road) York. I was here doing a count. This image shows the (red tarmac) Crichton Ave-Foss Islands Path link (non motorised users) across the access road to the site that is the subject of a planning application. Context: #187304. Count links: #170962. But note the second trajectory - between Crichton Avenue and Wigginton Road bridge. In this morning's peak this was very well used despite being narrow, noisy and unsafe-feeling: #187373. Other images here today: #187372, #187374.

COUNT: Crichton Avenue Wigginton Road over Denning’s Yard entrance. Wednesday. 2 November 2022. 07.25-08.25. Clear, dry, sharp.

COUNT RESULT: 297 in an hour.

Observations:

A single Tier e-scooter (Tier scheme overview: #164663). A young teen on an e-cycle which is potentially worrying – the Netherlands is reporting a noticeable increase in use among ever younger users, which means they get less exercise. Older pupils taking themselves to school but the streams of families accompanying children to – likely - Haxby Road Primary Academy were noticeably absent. Perhaps I was too early? There was a pulse of families with young children coming towards me over Crichton Avenue road bridge as I left.
