[Image taken 3.11.22] Blake Street, York. There's- seemingly - room for a trike between the upstands here. Compare the racks this side of the space with those on the other. All are Sheffields but these are not linked - the others are which makes them 'toastracks'. Freestanding Sheffields are much more flexible. The spaces between, in front and at the ends can be varied. Plus there's no upstand - no raised linking rail. Some cycles are too heavy or unwieldy or laden - think shopping or occupied child seat(s). Some people can't lift a cycle up/onto a rail - and of course there are two per toastrack. And this has to be done twice - when parking and when leaving. Further, not every cycle will straddle the distance of the parallel linking rails which makes cycles unstable. The rails can also be a trip hazard. I stopped to see how well the racks here accommodated a trike. There would not be room in the stands opposite. Looks good in this image. But see: #187455.
