[Image taken 10.12.22] Co-op, 143-145 Tang Hall Lane, York. Positive: the sign that makes it clear this is cycle parking. This 'toast rack' is just wide enough to accommodate two 'bare bones' cycles - ie without luggage, child seats, trailers, etc, and a child’s cycle and a child’s scooter. However, the 'end spaces' 'end of racks' spaces are wasted/not usable: the bollard to the left limits what size machine can use this side of the upright/support and at the other end there's a bollard and a bin. This means people who ride bespoke or adapted family or utility designs or need more space for mobility reasons cannot use the cycle parking. Models such as: #174749, #183748, #178200, #183747 and therefore the riders - potential Co-op customers - are unable to park here. I presume the bollards predate the cycle parking. This is why they don't protect the cycles in it. (Compare with: #184753.) And, the linking rails have an upstand. You have to lift your cycle over both sides twice ie when locating and removing your cycle. Plus, depending on the size of the gap between your wheels your cycle might not straddle the rails. One wheel might only reach as far as the top of the far rail and be unstable. Context and links: #188684.
