[UPDATE: In the first week of January 2023 I saw the cones had been removed.] [Image taken 31.12.22] Burton Stone Lane (northbound), York. Splitter island, permanent priority sign, speed cushion and… double cones. Compare with the earlier image with temporary signage (obstructing the cycle channel), single cone, and measurements: #187794. Other image today and links: #188984.
My experience: After dark/on the evening of Wednesday 11 January 2023, I was walking on the pavement on this side of the road, southbound. I was closer to the other end of the 'pound' when a cyclist came towards me and passed me. S/he was a food delivery rider with a large square backpack. I could hear a motor vehicle further north on Burton Stone Lane. I turned round to see what would happen. The delivery cyclist reached this point - where the cycle symbols are on this side of the speed cushion - at the same time as the driver heading south tried to enter by straddling the measure which is intended to slow motorists' speeds. The driver had not given way despite a road sign and road markings that make it clear oncoming vehicles have priority. I am still shocked by the motorist's behaviour and don't understand how the person on the cycle was not knocked off.
