[Image taken 12.2.23] Former Bootham Park Hospital grounds, junction with Bootham, York. [NOTE: No street view at this location] This is part of the Scarborough Bridge to Bootham Park cycle route improvements scheme. Looking into the former Bootham Park Hospital grounds. When you are heading in this direction at a weekend you are looking towards black gates with no additional lighting/without a high contrast background. I think these black gates need reflective details and/or a very large sign so people using the new crossing will see that they are closed...before they hit them. To get this far people on cycles will have traversed the wide crossing, will have had to look out for and likely avoid other cyclists (some crossing their path), pedestrians, motorists in the hatched area and cobbles (see: #190862). Plus it can be dark in York from 13.00 on wet and dull winter afternoons and, even when it’s not raining, visibility is not great. Context: #190860.
