But there's no question 74cm is too close between the supports/securing bars. 100cm is the standard recognised minimum. CYC and Edinburgh now recommend 120cm. You have to fit bags, handlebars, bulky clothing, bums and tums between the cycles, two each to the space between each set of supports. The Estates Engineer at York St John is proactive and motivated. He said: "I have had one complaint that they are still too narrow and not deep enough though... ...Following this feedback and assessment by a few of our staff I think what we will be doing on campus (when time and funds allow) is to commission our own shelters to be made in a similar style to what we have installed here, but with the Sheffield style ground mounted loops rather than the fixed racks. ...So I don't think we are yet at 'best practice', but definitely making strides towards it!"
