[Image taken 17.3.23] Denning’s Yard access, York. The distance between the stopline (see: #192126) and the carriageway is around 17-18m. Uphill. And crosses a very well used NMU path. The people on this have no warning when vehicle turns into the cul de sac and towards/over the path. This is also the case when motorists are exiting Denning's Yard and access. People approaching the crossing may not see the vehicle as the sightlines are so limited. Plus, there is no visible warning a driver has a green light to proceed. Very many people who use the crossing are unaware there are lights for drivers leaving the cul de sac as they can't see them. When I was watching this junction today, exiting drivers were crossing onto the carriageway (junction) as or after the light on Denning's Yard access turned red. One driver stopped after the light turned green to talk to a pedestrian with a box of chips. The light turned red, and the driver could see it, but he continued though/over it.
MY EXPERIENCE: Another driver turned into mouth of the access road and was, it seemed, within touching distance of someone crossing the path. The pedestrian was seemingly unaware of the vehicle or how close it was. I saw the vehicle (a car-height van) only as it got close to the pedestrian. (From the angle I don't think the driver was turning left out of Wigginton Road south.) Other image today and links: #192125.
MY EXPERIENCE: 8.6.23 Crossing from Crichton Avenue to Foss Islands Path a driver was at the lights visible in the background of this image. We had two cycles: 1 with two full - heavily laden - rear panniers, 1 pulling a heavily laden trailer. As I crossed I looked to see the lights to the right of the camera position. They turned green. The trailer rider was still crossing. He had gravity with him but because this is a busy crossing with NMUs (to which I add a new category after seeing two women doing this activity along here last night - nordic walkers) and because it is downhill, with limited sightlines - #194877 - and, mindful of the weight of his load, he was proceeding slowly. The driver therefore had to wait until the cyclist had cleared the coloured crossing in the image. Then there was the 17 meters still to cover. By the time the motorist reached the actual junction with Wigginton Road the lights for him/her were long turned red.
