[UPDATE: 18.6.23 See: #195233.]
[MY EXPERIENCE: 18.6.23 at 18.25 I watched a cyclist ride into the empty pound. Just as he was nearly at the exit an untha branded van (www.untha.co.uk) drove into the measures (ignoring the Give way sign that mirrors the one in this image) heading straight for the cyclist.]
[MY EXPERIENCE: 9.6.23 The sun was bright at lunchtime today. I approached this end of the measures slowly as I could see from some distance away there was a vehicle stopped here. I could see the right-hand blinker was flashing. It seemed the motorist could see what I couldn't, as the vehicle was blocking my view, that a driver was in the pound. It seemed the driver of the vehicle stopped here was waiting till the pound was empty before proceeding - as per the sign. However when I got close enough to stop I could just about see that the left-hand light was flashing too. The driver was not waiting for the pound to clear, the vehicle was stopped. I inched out onto the oncoming carriageway to be able to see if the pound was clear/if I could go. I looked into the vehicle. There was no driver and the passenger was fiddling with her phone which suggested the vehicle had been here for at least some minutes and would remain here. These measures have created hazards were there were none and exacerbated problems and bad behaviours. For people walking, cycling, wheelchairing, etc, doctor's surgery, the dental practice, the pharmacy on Clifton for people cycling the Orbital route or heading towards Acomb or to the river to pick up route 65, the 'new low' is a huge deterrent to making even essential journeys and to using active travel methods to do so.]
[Image taken 27.04.23] Burton Stone Lane (looking south), York. The wands have been reinstated. (Context: #193043.) The nearest wand has acquired a cycle symbol roundel. This adds further confusion and clutter to the nonsensical layout. (The meaning of that symbol www.cyclescheme.co.uk/community/featured/reading-the-signs .) Other image this subject here today: #193434. Other images this subject Scarborough Bridge today: #193435, #193436. Other images today: #193437, #193438, #193439, #193440, #193441.
[MY EXPERIENCE: After taking this image I rode through the pound. Three drivers entered through the gap at the far end - that exactly mirrors this one - ie ignoring the Give way markings on the road and the wording on the sign.
